ENERGY STAR Modular Homes
Energy Star defines modular homes as homes substantially constructed in one or more section ("modules" or "boxes") in a modular home factory. The modules are transported to the site, set and connected to the foundation and finished.
Modular Homes and The ENERGY STAR Label
To earn the ENERGY STAR label, modular homes must meet the same guide lines as a site stick built home. The guide lines for a modular home to be labeled as an ENERGY STAR include the following:
Modular Home Heating and Air Conditioning Equipment
The climate zone your modular home is delivered to will determine the level of efficiency for your air conditioning equipment. Heating climates require more efficient heating systems and vice versa for cooling systems in warmer climates.
Modular Home Envelope, Windows and Doors
The envelope of your home includes the walls, ceilings and floors. Air tightness and insulation installation and R-Value are determined by the climate zone your modular home will be completed.
Modular Home Water Heater
Water heating systems can consume as much as 30% of a homes energy consumption. Modular home hot water heating systems can be electric, gas, oil and solar.
Modular Home Thermostats and Ductwork
Programable thermostats can cut air conditioning bills for those to lazy to turn back the thermostats at night. Duct work requirement include air tightness and insulation values depending upon the cliamate zone and location of the modular home duct work.
Modular Home Lighting

Eighty percent of lighting in a ENERGY STAR labeled modular home must be LEDs, compact flourescent lights or pin based lighting. These standards are deterimined by RESNET.
