There are three types of chimneys for a modular home: interior space chimney; exterior wall chimney and a chimney that is located on the exterior of the home. Interior Wall Chimneys - Installing a fire place on an interior wall of a modular home requires a chase to extend into the attic space of the new home. On ranch homes and Cape Cod floor plans, this is rarely a problem. In two story modular homes, locating the chmney chase can be a more difficult task. Often people will decrease the size of a closet for an interior fireplace chimney chase in a prefab home. Exterior Wall Chimneys - Locating your fireplace on the exterior wall of your new modular home provides to choices: an exterior chimney or an interior chimney. Exterior chimney are constructed at the factory in small building modules and stack upon each other. Typically the chimney modules are eight to twelve fee tall. If the chimney is located on a gable end wall of the home, The factory can construct the chimney as part of the home, When the house is set, all that will need to be installed is the flue itself. Often though firelplace located on outside walls of a prefab house will require the chimney to built as either modules by the factory or constructed on site.
